15th ESSKA Congress
May 2-5, 2012, Geneva

Welcome to Geneva and ESSKA

We are proud to greet you for the 15th ESSKA Congress, May 2-5, 2012, in Geneva.

Located in the heart of Europe, Geneva is a natural focal point which everyone can easily reach by train, car or plane. Known worldwide as a major conference and congress centre, Geneva hosts also the European headquarters of the United Nations. It is the founding venue of the International Red Cross Movement and the actual home of over two hundred international organisations. As a financial centre, the city registers more than 230 banks. Set at the western end of the Lake Léman, between the Alps and the Jura Mountains, Geneva is a city of 190'000 inhabitants offering a wide choice of business and leisure activities.

The old city is built on a hill and is dominated by the St-Pierre cathedral since the 12th century. In the underground of this monument, a unique archaeological exhibition bears witness of a history started 3 centuries B.C. In its tiny streets, the old city (Vieille Ville) hides a world of art galleries, antique shops, booksellers, terraces and original bistros.

Around the lakeshore, flower-decked promenades, parks, fashionable hotels, elegant restaurants and shops jostle to encircle the famous fountain (Jet d'eau) which rises 140 meters over the water.

The artistic and cultural life is particularly rich, including theatres, concerts, exhibitions, music festivals, opera-house and museums.

A few minutes outside the city centre, nodding wheatfields, lakeside vineyards and the romantic wooded banks of the Rhone and the Arve rivers refl ect a magic rural world.

The congress venue is PALEXPO, located close to the Cointrin International Airport, a railway station and the highway E25 entering Geneva. PALEXPO is well connected to the city by train, buses and taxis.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to Geneva in May 2012!
